Last night, I arranged snorkeling at 8:30 am. Set my alarm for 7:30. Left for the peir at 815.

Due to the weather, strong wind and waves, the harbor master closed the underwater park. No snorkeling.

Read for awhile after returning. Caught up on news. Packed and wrote in my blog.

Went out for lunch and walked around the boardwalk around beach.

That little animal in the stone is a coatie, a mexican racoon. Randy, my late husband, had an interesting encounter with one in Cozumel….on one of our many adventures.

Sure miss you Randy, everyday.

Today I had lunch with Tamara Adame, divemaster and ocean conservationist.

She’s doing very important work, to eliminate plastics from the oceans. We must all do our part.

She is part of a film making crew, developing a film, to be used to educate the public and especially tourists, like me. We all want to preserve these presious oceans.

Planned to take it easy. Strolled around town. Town square

Walked to the pier, the water looked so beautiful.

I couldnt resist. Went and got my gear, hopped a boat and went snorkeling.

Afterward I was hungry, went to El Pescador and had a fresh caught grouper. They brought is out for me to see before cooking. Delicious!

We went to a deeper reef, not my favorite because less light, pictures are not so clear. It was windy, with waves, visability fair.

This little taco joint has really good food. Just steps away from my rental house, Casa Velero.

Had shrimp tacos and cheese emphanada at Caribelos…right on the way to the pier.
Another meal before, I had quesadilla and guacamole. All delicious.

A windy day, waves, and visability is so-so. Got some good pics though.

Snorkeled with a couple of fun guys from Canada. The divemaster gave excellent instructions, great for newbies.  The guys snorkeled like champs.

Ran into Joaquin, he’s taking a group out snorkeling to the reef. He invited me to join. It was late afternoon at 3:00. The water visability was a bit stirred up.

I read an article in New York Times today about Easter Island. How the islanders didnt conserve their resources, cut down every tree, until the island was decimated.

This article inspired me so. I sent a letter to the editor of New York Times.

Ive sent 3 letters to editor of NYT in the last 2 yrs. (None published)

As a Science fiction fan, snorkeling or diving is the closest feeling I’ll ever get to space travel. That weightless feeling, that lasts long after you’ve left the water and taken your shower. All the while visions of those beautiful sights still swimming in your mind.

It’s a hopeless feeling…what can one person do to combat rising water temps and acidity? Is just touching the reef and using biodegradable reef friendly sunscreen, is it enough from those of us that derive so much pleasure observing the reef and depend on the oceans for their livelihood.

Diving in Little Cayman, i swam around a wall of coral to be hold what looked like a purple christmas tree. Rising from the depths to almost the surface, the giant cone-shaped purple coral christmas tree had small iridescent fish circling it as if they were ornaments. I’ve wondered if it’s still there or scattered on the ocean floor as a graveyard of bones?

The plan was to go snorkeling early at 8:30 am., get to the reef early….the visability is better, and there is a better chance to see larger sea creatures, like manta rays, etc.

Set my alarm, for 7:30. Got up and made coffee for all. Angela wasnt feeling well. So I went to dock, found Capt. Joaquin, arranged to go a bit later.

Upon arriving, found that 3 guests would be joining us. They arrived late due to traffic from Cancun.

By that time, the sea was a little rougher, we went to a part of the reef that was deeper. Maybe for that reason, but not sure why, but Angela panicked. Said she couldnt breath through her snorkel. Chris tried it, OK.  He took her back to boat. During that, Chris lost my new GoPro camera.

She got back into the water after a little while. Seemed to do fine. Chris got frustrated and went back to boat.

However, I got some good pictures.

Since it was a busy day yesterday, we decided to take it easy.

Went out for leisurly breakfast.

Chris had seafood soup, Angela had fish fajitas, and I had a quesadilla with guac….the best ever.

It was so relaxed….that a dog was lounging in the street.
