Today is the Labor Day Holiday. Chris chartered a sailboat and Meghan reserved a delightful bay house. Chris’s interest in sailing goes way back to childhood. When he was 9, Chris and his dad, my late husband, Randy, took a lake sailing course. It was on Lake Chautauqua in New York. Chris wants a sailboat and is studying how to operate, navigate, and the different sailboats.

We left our place in the morning, with a little concern because there were no wind. Having no wind would be wonderful if we were going snorkeling, but its the opposite for sailing, wind is a necessity.

Captain Scott, is a pilot, a lawyer, and worked in Seattle. He sailed to work, in downtown Seattle. It took about an hour. We’re very pleased to charter with him. He answered our sailing questions. Chris impressed me on knowing all the lingo. He showed Chris around the boat, the engine, and the sails, he explained everything. Chris helped manage the sails.

This map is where we are going Puget Sound near Seattle.. Megan booked a Air B&B on Puget Sound, where we are meeting our sail charter. I found out what a “Sound” is, the water type. A Sound is like a bay but deeper.

The train didn’t leave until 4pm. The Amtrak train was nice but slow, unlike the bullet trains in Japan and Europe. It stopped twice for repairs. I arrived about 3 hrs late.

Chris and Megan picked me up in Pasco. We drove to West Richland, Washington. where they live.

The next morning, we went to a farmers market, bought delicious fruit and veggies.

After the farmers market, Chris made dinner. Grilled tenderloin, caprese salad with heirloom tomatoes, roasted purple potatoes, grilled squash, with Washington peppers, a roll from the bakery, and Washington wine. We ate outside on their patio. The weather is beautiful and cool, I’m sure it’s sweltering back at home in San Antonio, Texas.

Watched Sherlock Holmes before bed. Tomorrow, we are going to Seattle, they rented a house on the beach for 3 days, and chartered a sailboat for the following day. Sounds so much fun. Stay tuned!

My best friend, Denise and her husband Mike, moved from Austin, TX to Portland, OR. to be near their daughter and son in law and help with the 3 sets of twins, born 2 yrs apart. This is my first visit since they moved.

Denise and I met in 1978 at Hermann Hospital in the Houston Medical Center., where we worked. At the time we were both newlyweds and new nurses. she and her husband had just moved to Houston, during the boom, from Buffalo, NY. We’ve been friends since. We’ve been there for each other during good times, the birth of our children. And also for the sad times of loss of family members.

The next evening, we had a cruise on the lake.
