I visited Isla Mujeres in 1979. It was a sleepy little village. I had the best lobster I ever ate at Ciro’s Lobster Pot. The water was clear and there was a small but healthy coral reef.
I remember the night randy and I left. We walked out to a point of the Island where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea. That night I felt that I was so lucky to be where I am.
We took a Catamaran trip. It involved traveling to Cancun to catch the boat.
Leaving CancunFirst stop, snorkeling at the reefBut the coral reef is all dead. Heartbreaking! Some surviving Elkhorn coralDead Brain coral, from bleaching. It turns white, then dissolves back into sand. This is due to climate change, the water temperature increasing, run off from pesticides, plastic in the ocean, sunscreen. On to the town on Isla Mujeres.Stopped for lunchChecking out the lobstersBack on the catamaran. going to Beach ClubFellow travelers, specialists hair stylists from California, Brittany and Amanda. They were fun! They crew took really good care of us, and had a good sense of humor
