Early Morning Snorkel

These are the barriers they are trying to prevent the seaweed washing on to the beach.

Wasn’t thrilled with Joaquin said 8am for snorkeling. I prefer later when the sun it out and the light is better for pictures. We were the first ones on the reef. It was like an aquarium with fish swimming everywhere, instead of hiding in the reef.

Girls Night Out

Right in the back of the building, Casa Velero, where I stay. They opened a club, during this year. At night I sit at the end of the turtle garden and Palm Trees, where there’s a nice breeze in the evening, and listen to the music from the club. It’s a mixture of mexican and old rock and roll. We decided to visit the club, since I’ve been listening to the music for free.

Hungry for a hamburger

Stopped at the burger place, Underground Burger. They’re good, taste like home, but better.

Catamaran Trip to Isla Mujeres

I visited Isla Mujeres in 1979. It was a sleepy little village. I had the best lobster I ever ate at Ciro’s Lobster Pot. The water was clear and there was a small but healthy coral reef.

I remember the night randy and I left. We walked out to a point of the Island where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea. That night I felt that I was so lucky to be where I am.

We took a Catamaran trip. It involved traveling to Cancun to catch the boat.

Leaving Cancun
First stop, snorkeling at the reef
But the coral reef is all dead. Heartbreaking!
Some surviving Elkhorn coral
Dead Brain coral, from bleaching. It turns white, then dissolves back into sand. This is due to climate change, the water temperature increasing, run off from pesticides, plastic in the ocean, sunscreen.
On to the town on Isla Mujeres.
Stopped for lunch
Checking out the lobsters
Back on the catamaran. going to Beach Club
Fellow travelers, specialists hair stylists from California, Brittany and Amanda. They were fun!
They crew took really good care of us, and had a good sense of humor

Heading back to Cancun

The color of the water is so beautiful, one of the most enjoyable parts

They danced for us. They guy in the front is Maui, he was the main guide that made sure we all got where we were supposed to be.
Back to the dock in Cancun
Returned just in time to see a woman bungee jumping
Back to our shuttle to take us from Cancun to Puerto Morelos.

Snorkel Day

Caught the snorkel boat around 2:30, water was a bit stirred up with lower visibility. Captain and Dive Master were helpful. I struggled against the mandatory life vest. I’ve learned in snorkeling and scuba diving, you’re experience is only as good as your gear. got a few pictures…but missed the one of the HUGE barracuda.

Cenotes with Frances and Linda

It’s a lovely hot day to cool off in the fresh water Cenotes, underground river. Our previous cab driver took us, picked up us at Casa Velero, drove us there, waited 2 hrs, and brought us back.

The entrance looks a little intimidating, but it worth is when you enter.

That’s me, up by the cliff rails, heading to jump off
Looks really high from above
Taking the big jump!
Frances is jumping
Linda (75 yrs old) taking a closer look to determine if she will jump?
There’s her splash!
And swimming away!
A little sisterly advice.
Took pics with Alejandro, a peacock came to bid farewell
On the way back, we stopped for “To Go” grilled chicken place from your food tour called “Sinaloa Pollo”. It’s marinated in lime and spices. Delicious! One half of a chicken, with rice, pickled onions, tortillas, and sauces is only $3.50 US.
We took it back to Puerto Morelos and ate it by the pool. Soooo good! We also bought some for Alejandro and family. He took really good care of us!

New Guests arrival, Going Snorkeling

My college roomate and her sister arrived. Haven’t seen each other in about 40 yrs. She got out of Happy Shuttle and said, ” OMG, I remember that laugh”

Our first dinner was lobster, but didn’t get a pic.

The next day went snorkeling, the wind is to be low and it makes a difference on how rough it is while your out swimming around in the ocean

Met some lovely couples that we snorkeled with.

Didn’t get many pictures, as my memory card was full.

Fellow Americans from New York
They’re are from the Czech Republic. Iv’e wanted to visit there, especially Prague.
